Utility model applications:

Requirements as to novelty are the same as for patents. Inventive step required is lower than for patents.  Exceptions to protection: inventions contrary to the law or public morals; discoveries, scientific theories and mathematical methods; aesthetic design creations; schemes, rules and methods for performing mental acts, playing games or doing business, and programs for computers; reproduction of information; plant or animal varieties; methods or processes. 

Requirements for filing:

1. Specification in Finnish and claims in Finnish and Swedish, 4 sets.
2. Drawings: Either 1 set on white drawing paper and 4 sets of copies, size 21 x 29,7 cm with a free inner margin of 2,5 cm on the top and on the left side, 1,5 cm on the right side and 1 cm at the bottom (no frame) or 5 sets of photographs.

6. Information required:
   
   - full name, domicile and address of applicant and inventor
   - priority data
